Just as Bentley shocked with the world with the EXP 9F concept reveal at the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini will do the same at the Beijing show when it unveils the long-rumored Lamborghini crossover. That’s not all, though. As Lamborghini attempts to become more profitable, a handful of new and updated sports cars could be the answer, Automobile magazine reports.
The Lamborghini SUV, which could launch by 2016, will be the third model line alongside the Gallardo and Aventador. While Bentley went big with the EXP 9F concept by equipping it with a W-12, Lamborghini’s crossover won’t be quite as thirsty, possibly using a 550-580 hp 5.2-liter V-10. Rumors of it using a quad-turbocharged V-8 powerplant have also surfaced. While the powerplant is in question, we do know the SUV will share its platform with the Bentley crossover, and also the next-generation Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg. With the automaker’s resources tied up with the SUV, the Estoque sedan concept will remain, for now, just a concept.
Lamborghini plans to unwrap the face-lifted Gallardo at the Paris show this October, and the new second-generation model could arrive in late 2013 or early 2014—if it gets approved. The new Gallardo will likely retain a V-10 and be offered as a coupe and spyder. Although the Aventador J Concept from this year’s Geneva show is one of a kind, we can expect a 20-unit run of the Sesto Elemento (shown above) next year. Our favorite rumor? The production possibility of a front-engine two-door sports car in the spirit of the Espada, Jarama, or 400 GT.
